As you can well imagine, suddenly coming into existence was quite a shock for me. I was violently thrust from pleasantly warm, wet darkness into a place of
blinding light, harsh noises and uncomfortable chilliness. As time went on, I grew larger in size and began to recognize (create?) a certain coherence to the
barrage of sensory input I experienced. In time I came to think of myself as a conscious entity, inhabiting a real world and increasingly capable of
"meaningful" independent activity. With my large forebrain and opposable thumbs, I had an easier time of it than many of my fellow "living
things" -- although I discovered that a large brain also has some drawbacks (for example, I sometimes find myself engaging in an apparently useless and
unpleasant mental activity known as "worrying"). More time passed, and there have been further developments, but nothing this momentous or really
worth mention.
